Empowering young people through sustainable textile design

Let's Create and Reuse

Let's Create and Reuse

Tackling the impact of fast fashion on the climate crisis through hands-on learning in secondary schools across Coventry and Warwickshire

Let’s Create and Reuse is a six-week sustainability-focused textile programme designed for secondary school students. Our mission is to educate students about the impact of textile waste on the planet and promote the upcycling of denim and cotton clothing, donated by Myton Hospice, into new creations. This programme is delivered by lead artist Libby Esler and assistant Kate from Artlabtry and in collaboration with Broadweavers And Clothiers Guild of Coventry, with support from industry experts.

Benefits to students

Students will learn to create and publicly showcase upcycled denim and 100% cotton art pieces and guest speakers, including Sewing Bee finalist Mark Francis and retail fashion expert Anna Clarke share their expertise. They will learn about the damaging effects of the fast fashion industry on the planet and personal well-being. After each cohort completes their artwork, we will exhibit the students’ creations at Coventry University and Art in the Park. These exhibitions aim to promote the students’ work and educate the local community about sustainability. The artwork will also be displayed in Myton Hospice shops in Coventry and will be available for sale in January 2025, closing the loop on circular fashion and supporting a worthy charity.
